Is your Internet ready for VoIP?

This test measures from your browser what matters for call quality: latency, jitter, packet loss, speeds and UDP traversal. Run it from where you'll use your phones.

How to read the results

MetricExcellentAcceptableWhy it matters
Latencyunder 120 msunder 250 msBeyond that, people talk over each other.
Jitterunder 20 msunder 40 msHigh jitter makes the voice choppy.
Packet lossunder 1%under 3%Lost packets mean missing words.
Bandwidthabout 100 kb/s per call, each wayA 5 Mb/s upload easily handles more than 20 calls.

The test measures an HTTP round trip to our server in Canada: actual call latency is usually a little lower. The UDP test uses a public STUN server.

Improve call quality

  • Connect desk phones and the home adapter to the router by cable rather than Wi-Fi when possible.
  • Avoid very large uploads (cloud backups) during calling hours, or limit them in the router.
  • With Starlink: keep the dish free of obstructions; typical latency is well suited to voice.
  • Weak result? Call us: we'll look at your situation for free before you order.

Frequently asked questions

What Internet speed do I need for VoIP?

About 100 kb/s per simultaneous call, each way. For 5 employees on the phone at once, 1 Mb/s upload is enough; stability (latency, jitter) matters more than speed.

Does VoIP work over cellular Internet or Starlink?

Yes, in the vast majority of cases. Run the test from that connection to confirm.
