Why still pay $50 a month for a landline?

A traditional home phone line often costs more than $50 a month in Quebec, before long distance. Yet most households already have an Internet connection. Residential VoIP uses that connection to carry your calls: same number, same phone, same dial tone, but a bill of $12.95 a month with calls anywhere in Canada and the US included up to 1,000 minutes.

It's the ideal solution for people who want to keep a landline number for the family, medical appointments or elderly relatives, without paying for a copper line.

How it works

  1. Order online and pick a new local number (418, 581, 514, 450, 819…) or request the free transfer of your current number.
  2. Your line is live as soon as you pay: you can already call with the app on your cell phone or computer.
  3. Receive your pre-configured device in 4 to 7 business days. Plug it into your Internet router: it connects by itself.

Three ways to answer the phone

Keep your current phone

The Grandstream HT801 adapter sits between your router and your corded phone or cordless base. Your handsets keep ringing throughout the house.

$99 one time, shipped

A Wi-Fi cordless

The Grandstream WP810 connects straight to your Wi-Fi: no cable to the router. Handy if your router is far away, in the basement or the garage.

Just the app

Your home line rings on your cell phone (iPhone, Android) or computer. No device to buy. Ideal at the cottage or when travelling.

The ideal home phone with Starlink

Starlink changed life for rural families: fast Internet where cable and fibre don't reach. But Starlink doesn't offer a home phone service — and many rural households still pay for a copper line just to keep their number. Our home phone line solves that:

  • Works with Starlink's CGNAT: the device opens its own encrypted connection to our server. No ports to open, no router settings.
  • Light on bandwidth: a call uses about 100 kb/s, a fraction of Starlink's capacity. No impact on streaming or remote work.
  • Simple hookup: the HT801 adapter plugs into an Ethernet port on the router. If your Starlink router has no free Ethernet port (some older or compact models), choose the Wi-Fi WP810, or add Starlink's Ethernet adapter.
  • Automatic forwarding to your cell: if your Internet goes down (storm, dish obstruction), incoming calls are forwarded to the cell number of your choice.
  • Your 9-1-1 address: your home address is registered for emergency calls, which is essential in rural areas.

Same at the cottage, the sugar shack or the hunting camp: as long as there's Internet, your home number follows you.

Keep your number

Is your number with Bell, Vidéotron, Telus or another provider? Request its transfer from your client area with an electronic signature. Transfers usually take 5 to 15 business days. Don't cancel your old service before the transfer is complete: your old provider closes the line automatically on transfer day.

9-1-1: what you need to know

With VoIP, 9-1-1 calls are routed with the address you registered. Keep it up to date if you move. The service does not work during an Internet or power outage: keep a charged cell phone at hand and, if possible, plug your router and device into a UPS (battery backup). All 9-1-1 information.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my corded phone or cordless handsets?

Yes. The Grandstream HT801 adapter ($99, shipped pre-configured) plugs into your Internet router; you plug your phone or cordless base into it and your handsets keep working throughout the house.

Does VoIP work with Starlink?

Yes. The device opens an outgoing encrypted connection to our server, which works behind Starlink's CGNAT with no settings. A call uses only about 100 kb/s.

What happens if my Internet goes down?

Incoming calls are automatically forwarded to your backup cell number. 9-1-1 over VoIP does not work during an outage: use your cell phone.

How long until I receive the device?

4 to 7 business days after payment. Your line is live as soon as you pay: you can call with the app in the meantime.

Can I call internationally?

International calls are blocked by default to protect you against fraud. Calls to Canada and the US are included up to 1,000 minutes a month.

Is there a contract or cancellation fee?

No. The service is month to month, with no contract and no cancellation fee. The device is yours to keep.
